On Thursday, Feb 23, 2023, we held our first community event: INSIGHT 2023 by ISAIC! More than 30 people came and enjoyed panel discussions, networking opportunities, and learning more about ISAIC. Together with Griselda Sukmoro and Jim Boyes as the co-hosts, we learned about different service providers, successful startups, upskilling and talent management, as well as incubator programs and funding opportunities.

INSIGHT Encourages Collaboration Among Academia and Industries

Since 2018, ISAIC planned a gathering to introduce our company to the community. As a service provider, we want to showcase AI technologies. It is in 2023 when we successfully delivered the event. Supported by Edmonton Regional Innovation Network (ERIN), INSIGHT 2023 by ISAIC was held on the sixth floor of the ETLC building, located at the University of Alberta. Our event ran from 11 AM until 4 PM with much opportunities to learn from insightful panels and build fruitful connections.

One of our principal investigators, Edmond Lou, delivered an opening remark, sharing how ISAIC started. The purpose of ISAIC, previously called AI Supercomputing Hub, was to provide computational resources for AI commercialization. Afterwards, Eric Flaim welcomed everyone with a speech, explaining the future for ISAIC, NanoFAB, and Elko Engineering Garage.

Panelists with Different Backgrounds Shared Their Perspectives

Together with Amii, AltaML, and Cybera, ISAIC's program and operations manager, Jim Boyes, shared how readily available ISAIC's virtual machines. At the moment, we are offering both dedicated and on-demand options. It is important to consider local resources as they offer high touch points, better rates, and Alberta-based services.

In the second panel called "Equipping Industries with AI Solutions", panelists from PulseMedica, NTWIST, and BioStream shared their views about the most trending topic, ChatGPT. It is true that technology can become obsolete, but entrepreneurs have to focus on solving the problem.

Meanwhile, our panelists from NeurAlbertaTech, Concordia University of Edmonton, ASGAARD Lab, and the University of Alberta, discussed about the importance of data readiness. Tech talents are encouraged to investigate before jumping into the problem. It is best to apply critical thinking in analyzing what we're facing.

Finally, our last panelists were from Technology Alberta, Alberta Innovates, and Edmonton Unlimited. Many programs and funding initiatives were established to support the innovation growth in Alberta. Programs, such as FIRST Jobs, AICE funding, and Capital City Pilots are here to encourage AI commercialization.

We Are Planning for Our Second Event!

And, good news! ISAIC, together with NanoFAB and Elko Engineering Garage will plan a community event. We're aiming to host EXPLORE 2023 by CREATE in November 2023 during the University of Alberta's fall reading week. It will be filled with field tour, hands-on demonstrations, and more.
